Tribute
DEFINITELY not a good summer for the pets.
*sniffle*
I just found out from the Venables that dear Chip has had his last apple. He’s gone on to the green pastures reserved for the ponies that served long and faithfully, and put up with the vagaries of young riders.
From 8 to 16, I spent my free hours on his back, braiding his tail, and subjecting him to the indignities reserved for a babysitter. He never once offered to kick or bite me, was always healthy with the exception of that stiff left hip, and only misbehaved for my own good. I haven’t yet met the horse to match him, and of all the noble steeds in my dreams, he’s the one I most love.
*raising a metaphorical glass*
Here’s to Chocolate Chip, the pony of many talents, known for his trumpet of a whinny, his wry expressions, and his level head. I don’t know how many times I pulled things that would have ensured death with other horses, but the worst he ever allowed to happen was the occasional spill.

I’ll be perusing old pictures tonight….
