Responsive Domesticity

I have just spent a day being domestic. I figured out that my reaction was probably due to the pretty quilt that lives at the foot of my bed. Wednesday night was the first night it was cold enough to need an extra layer, and so I pulled the quilt up over everything else. The only part of me that it would have been in a lot of contact with would be my face. Therefore the quilt was the culprit.

So last night I gave it two cycles in the washer and one in the dryer, figuring that if I woke up puffy or watery-eyed in the morning, it’d be due to whatever quilt residue was on my comforter. Lo and behold, my eyes were watery when I woke up. So I’ve washed all my bedding (and did my clothing too), and I should be fine in the morning.

Okay, it’s about 2-3 hours later than when I started this post. Sara’s parents are here, fixing things like our little server, toilets, various house maintenance type things, and of course our lack of cooking anything in our kitchen. We’ve heated up lots of things, and Steven has cooked fish (niiiiccce ffffiiiissshhhh), but we haven’t actually cooked a meal from raw ingredients yet. Maybe tomorrow.

And our server is getting a makeover, or maybe it’s a full-body massage, or some sort of arcane beauty/function/form ritual. If all goes as hoped and planned, we will… (gasp) actually have a functioning internet connection! Eeek!

And I’ve cleaned my room. Wow. Willingly and cleanly. I’m impressed with myself. The majority of my carpet is clear, except for planned storage and the usual placement of backpack/purse on floor. I’m proud.

And my skin is really sensitive and slightly itchy right now. Even brushing something over it, like a finger, makes my whole face tingle. I hate this. We’ve gone from puffy to slight rash. Tomorrow it should be over. The good doctor also gave me a couple of suggestions for lotions and such, formulated for those folks with extremely dry and sensitive skin, so I’m trying those out over the next couple of days. I’ve already noticed an improvement in moisture-level, but I’m ready to say goodbye to this whole sensitive thing. I’m not very good at being girly and pretty-primpy-pampery. Call me a consummate brunette.

Nope, definitely a brunette.
